What the Metaller-KV covers

The Metaller-KV (Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeiter:innen bzw. Angestellten der Metalltechnischen Industrie (ausgenommen Berufsgruppe Gießereiindustrie)) covers employees of the metal technology industry. It is negotiated between WKÖ Fachverband Metalltechnische Industrie (FMTI) and PRO-GE (Arbeiter:innen) und Gewerkschaft GPA (Angestellte, bis 2020 GPA-djp). It sets a minimum salary for 12 groups with up to 6 steps, currently from €2,569 to €9,093 gross a month, plus increments that come with years of service. It is paid 14 times a year: the holiday pay and Christmas pay are set by the agreement and taxed at a preferential rate.

It is renegotiated every year, usually from September; the raise applies from 1 November. The starting point is inflation over the reference period, last time October 2024 – September 2025 at 3.01%. The union makes a demand, the employers an offer, and the deal lands in between. It usually has two figures: the minimum raise for the salary table and the actual raise for the salary you really get, also with an over-payment.

What is left of a raise after tax depends on your salary: each extra euro carries social insurance and wage tax at your marginal rate, so net pay usually grows a little less, in percent, than gross. Whether a deal is enough shows in purchasing power: since 2019 actual salaries under the Metaller-KV rose by 40.00%, prices over the reference periods by 38.48%.

Uniform pay scheme, employment groups A–K (plus I (M III-5%) as published). The Grundstufe is the entry pay. Each advancement adds a fixed euro increment (Vorrückungswert): A–J the first value after 2 and 4 years, the second after 6, 9 and 12 years; K the first after 2 years, the second after 4, 6 and 9 years (A has only two advancements). The "after X years" steps are the published totals (Grundstufe plus the increments so far), not to be added again; the increments themselves are listed in a table of their own. Since 1 Nov 2022 the rounds raise only the Grundstufe; the increments stay at their 1 Nov 2021 values. The Arbeiter and Angestellte tables carry identical monthly amounts.

Frequently asked questions

Agreed: minimum salaries +2.10% (base step), actual salaries +1.90%, from 1 November 2026.
Our forecast: minimum salaries about +1.80% (range 1.40% to 2.40%), actual salaries about +1.90%. It starts from inflation over the reference period October 2026 – September 2027 (2.60%, partly a WIFO forecast) and adds how far above or below inflation the branch settled in its last 3 rounds.
Under the salary table from 1 November 2025, between €2,568.80 (A, Base step) and €9,093.42 (K, after 9 y) gross a month, paid 14 times a year. It is a floor: your employer may pay more (over-payment), never less.
Talks usually start in September; the new salaries apply from 1 November. The round is negotiated against inflation over the reference period, the twelve months before it (last time October 2024 – September 2025: 3.01%).
The minimum raise lifts the salary table, the floor per group and step. The actual raise applies to the salary really paid, even above the minimum. Where it is lower than the minimum raise, the over-payment shrinks; your salary may never fall below the new minimum.
Yes. The minimum salary applies in proportion to your hours: at 20 of 40 weekly hours, half of it. The raise in percent is the same as for full-time.
Yes. Holiday and Christmas pay follow the monthly salary in force when they are paid. So you get a raise 14 times a year, and both special payments stay taxed at the preferential rate up to the annual sixth.
Then your employer has to top you up to the new minimum of your group and step from the effective date. Check your grade with the table on this page. You can claim shortfalls back, but many agreements set short deadlines for that, so talk to your works council, union or the Chamber of Labour early.
From 2019 to 2027 actual salaries rose by 40.00% in total, inflation over the reference periods by 38.48%. In 5 of 9 years the raise matched or beat inflation. Over the whole period the rounds kept up with inflation.
