What the Beamten-KV covers
The Beamten-KV is not a collective agreement but the usual name for the yearly pay raise in the public service. It covers federal civil servants and contract staff; it is negotiated between the federal government and the public-service union GÖD and enacted by the Nationalrat (Gehaltsgesetz 1956 und Vertragsbedienstetengesetz 1948). The law sets the monthly pay for 12 groups with up to 21 steps, currently from €2,284 to €7,196 gross; the step follows the years of service. It is paid 14 times a year: the holiday pay and Christmas pay are set by law and taxed at a preferential rate. This page works out net pay for an A-group as a civil servant (B-KUVG insurance and pension contribution), for a v-group as contract staff, like an employee. More in the gross-to-net calculator.
Talks usually start in October; the raise normally applies from 1 January. The starting point is inflation from October to September before, last time October 2024 – September 2025 at 3.01%. Because the table is the pay itself, there is no separate actual raise and no over-payment: the raise applies to everyone alike, in percent, with a minimum amount or as a fixed amount by pay level, depending on the deal.
What is left of a raise after tax depends on your salary: each extra euro carries social insurance and wage tax at your marginal rate, so net pay usually grows a little less, in percent, than gross. Whether a deal is enough shows in purchasing power: since 2018 salaries under the Beamten-KV rose by 45.39%, prices over the reference periods by 44.75%.
Beamten-KV: pay and prices since 2017. How much salaries have risen in total since 2017 (each raise on top of the last, +45.39% so far), against inflation over the reference periods (+44.75%, 2028 partly forecast). Where the solid line is on top, salaries gained purchasing power.
Salaries from 1 July 2026
Civil servants (Beamte) in general administration (A1 to A7, salary steps, advancing every two years) and contract staff in pay scheme v (v1 to v5, pay steps). A1 and v1: university degree, A2 and v2: Matura, below that skilled and auxiliary service. Each cell is the monthly pay set by law, gross, paid 14 times a year, rounded to 10 cents. Not included: function allowances, seniority allowances and the A1 Bachelor column.
